What is Sober Grad?
Sober Grad Night is an annual, parent-led celebration that gives CHS and CVHS graduating seniors a fun, safe, and substance-free way to celebrate graduation together.
The Sober Grad program originated with the California Highway Patrol in 1985 as an effort to reduce alcohol- and drug-related incidents surrounding high school graduation celebrations.
Our goal is 100% participation—and Sober Grad is completely FREE and inclusive for every graduating senior. This is made possible through year-round fundraising, grants, and the generous support of parents and our community.
What Does the Sober Grad Committee Do?
The parent-led Sober Grad Committee plans and raises funds for the entire celebration, with support from our schools, families, and community. In addition to Sober Grad Night, the committee coordinates Minute Parties throughout the school year and provides a Senior Gift to the graduating class.
What is a Minute Party?
Minute Parties are fun 15-minute gatherings held during the morning break, typically in the Breezeway outside the CHS office.
Throughout the year, we treat students to a snack while building excitement for Sober Grad and sharing positive reminders about making safe, smart choices. They’re a quick and fun way to keep Sober Grad visible and connected to the senior class all year long.
When & Where is Sober Grad Night
June 4th | 7:30 PM – 5:00 AM
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
The evening begins with a pre-party at the school gym before students travel together by chartered bus to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The all-night celebration includes entertainment, activities, food, a hypnotist performance, and plenty of surprises before everyone returns safely by bus the following morning.
